Formerly a polluted, derelict riverfront, Mill River Park and Greenway is now a verdant, animated civic space that mends the ecological and social fabric of downtown Stamford, Connecticut. Working closely with engineers and ecologists, the team conceived of a landscape designed to revitalize aquatic and terrestrial habitats and reduce flooding by restoring the channelized river’s edge and introducing hundreds of new native plants. The transformative effect of this park builds on ecological sustainability into social sustainability and social justice.

Mill River Park was awarded a 2015 Design Honor Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects. The 14-acre park includes greenways with bike and pedestrian paths, performance space, a pavilion with a carousel, patio, and bake shop, as well as an ice skating rink and fountain currently under construction. The next phase of the park includes extending the park down to the Harbor Point shoreline, as well as up to the Merritt Parkway with bicycle and pedestrian paths.
